College Student From Nassau Charged With Rape

The 22-year-old faces numerous felony charges, including rape, strangulation and unlawful Imprisonment, police say.

ALBANY, NY – A 22-year-old college student from Long Island was arrested Thursday and charged with several felony charges stemming from an incident that occurred in Albany earlier this month.

Angelo N. Sciortino, of Bethpage, is charged with first degree rape, second degree aggravated sexual abuse, second degree strangulation, first degree unlawful imprisonment and third degree assault.

Sciortino was a student at the State University of New York at Albany at the time of the incident, which occurred at an off-campus residence, police said.

Sciortino was familiar with the victim, police said.

Sciortino was arraigned in Albany City Court and was remanded to the Albany County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
