Farmingdale HS Employee's Missing Gun Found By Police: District
The employee's licensed firearm, which went missing from a vehicle, was found. It was never near school property, the district stated.

FARMINGDALE, NY — A Farmingdale High School employee whose personal firearm was reported missing sometime between Tuesday and Thursday was found, Principal Jed Herman told the community in a letter on Friday, obtained by Patch.
"With thanks to the Nassau County Police Department, the missing weapon was found off of school grounds," Herman said in an update on Friday evening. "The missing weapon was never on our property."
The employee's firearm is licensed and went missing from their personal vehicle, Herman wrote in his initial letter. The vehicle was located at times both on and off of school property, according to Herman.

"We have no evidence that this firearm was handled on school property by the employee, or any other person," Herman stated. "Firearms are not permitted on school property."
The employee has been administratively assigned to home as the district continues to investigate the matter further, Herman said. The employee is not part of the district's armed guard team, Herman said.

"Our armed guard program has continued to run without incident," Herman stated. "The safety and security of our students, staff, and school community remain our highest priority," Herman said. "We are cooperating fully with authorities and will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure a safe learning environment."
