Farmingdale Reacts to Rolling Stone Cover

Stores refuse to sell controversial issue; local residents blast magazine's decision to feature the terrorist.

Rolling Stone’s decision to feature a rock-star image of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the accused Boston bomber, on the cover of its latest edition, is stirring controversy, including in Farmingdale.

And while the issue won't be released until Friday, some local stores – including Stop & Shop, CVS and Walgreens – refuse to stock the latest publication.

Rhode Island-based CVS posted on its Facebook page Wednesday why it won't be on its shelves:

"CVS/pharmacy has decided not to sell the current issue of Rolling Stone featuring a cover photo of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect. As a company with deep roots in New England and a strong presence in Boston, we believe this is the right decision out of respect for the victims of the attack and their loved ones."

Walgreens tweeted: "Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Walgreens will not be selling this issue of Rolling Stone magazine."

Jennifer Meuser "I thinks it's disgusting and disturbing that a magazine would "honor" a terrorist with the cover!" wrote Jennifer Meuser. "A real shame. My heart goes out to everyone effected that they even have to see this."

"This is not the first time a despicable figure has graced the cover of a magazine, wrote Ann Cohen Forte. "Everyone has the right not to purchase the magazine or read the article, just as Rolling Stone has the right to report on and feature such controversy."
