FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale Village issued updates on the projects it is currently working on and welcomed a few new merchants to town.

"We hope everyone is enjoying the fall season with magnificent foliage, cooler weather, fairs and family fun seasonal activities!" Mayor Ralph Ekstrand stated. "The weather was great for the 33rd Annual Columbus Weekend Fair and Parade and the community enjoyed the many festivities. Special thanks to the Farmingdale Fire Department for all of their efforts and to all who contributed, participated and attended."

Ekstrand also thanked NY State Sen. Kevin Thomas for the $1,450,000 grant, which is being used for multiple village projects.

The Farmingdale Fire Department received new emergency equipment, a new ambulance and gators with $450,000 of the grant money.

The new water tower is nearing completion; $500,000 of the funds went to the project, Ekstrand said. The remaining $500,000 was earmarked for the burial of electric wires along Main Street, and PSEG Long Island is soon to arrange dates for the project.

Farmingdale Village also welcomed new shops, including Buster Moon Gift Shop at 336 Main St.; Necromantic Brew Co. (gluten-free craft beer) at 253 Main St.; the Haunted House of Hamburgers at 330 Fulton St.; and Gyro And Taco House at 356 Fulton St.

The Witchcraft Halloween Pop-Up, inspired by the movie "Hocus Pocus," was "very successful" at Main Street Pizza Restaurant, according to Ekstrand. The pizzeria offers seasonal pop-up events.

"Congratulations on the ongoing success," Ekstrand said.

Patricia Christiansen, a former Farmingdale Village trustee from 2006 to 2018 and deputy mayor from 2008-2018, has died, the village announced. She was also a member of the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee, helping with events such as Art in the Park and the annual Easter egg hunt, and other events.

"On behalf of the Board of Trustees and local community, we mourn the loss of Patricia Christiansen," Ekstrand wrote. "We extend our deepest condolences to Patricia's family and friends."
