FARMINGDALE, NY — Great Wall Kitchen of Farmingdale has been badly damaged by a car crash for the second year in a row.

A woman crashed into two cars and the Chinese restaurant in Farmingdale after losing control of her vehicle on Monday night, Nassau police said.

On Jan. 26, 2024, Great Wall Kitchen was devastated in a car crash involving a drunken driver.

A woman was driving a 2011 Mercedes Benz north on North Broadway when she left the road and collided with a parked 2018 Toyota, Nassau police said regarding the 2024 crash. The unoccupied Toyota went through the storefront, and the Mercedes Benz followed, police said. The woman was charged with DWI and third-degree assault.

Great Wall Kitchen reopened a few months later in May.

"We just finished rebuilding after the first crash a year ago, and now we are faced with the same devastation all over again," Chen wrote on the Facebook group. "While we are committed to rebuilding, we cannot ignore how dangerous this intersection is. Something needs to change."

The family previously advocated for concrete barriers, but Chen said that "clearly" was not enough.

"We urge [the Town of Oyster Bay] to take additional safety measures — whether that’s better traffic controls, additional lights, or speed enforcement—to prevent this from happening again. We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the Farmingdale community. Your kindness has meant everything to our family during these difficult times."

Chen did not say how long his parents' restaurant may remain closed.
