Memorial Day Parade, Street Fair, More: Farmingdale Spring Events

FARMINGDALE, NY — Spring is here, and Farmingdale Village announced its upcoming events as we ring in warmer weather.

"Welcome Spring!!" Mayor Ralph Ekstrand said. "The flowers, plants and trees are blooming and warmer weather for outdoor activities, events, plus enjoy the many parks, and stroll the village and downtown Main Street!"

  • The Nassau County SPCA second annual Animal Abuse Awareness & Adoption event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 on the Village Green. Rain or shine.
  • Colored Colors is set to kick off its 2025 Art Crawl events from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, along downtown Main Street.
  • Join the community to remember, honor and salute the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation on May 26. The Annual Memorial Day Parade is set to kick off at 10 a.m. proceeding south on Main Street, ending at Village Hall, followed by a ceremony on the Village Green (rain or shine).
  • In early June, the village will welcome back its weekly Farmers Market by Schneider's Farm to the Farmingdale Village Green on Sundays, from June 1 to Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.
  • The Farmingdale Fire Department Spring Street Fair along Main Street is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 7; as is a Fire Department Open House from noon to 3 p.m. and Medieval History Day On the Green from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and more. A rain date is scheduled for June 14.

Farmingdale Village officials were presented a $4.5 million New York State Forward Grant check at the April Nassau County Village Officials Associations (NCVOA) meeting, Ekstrand said.

"We are so fortunate and thankful for the incredible efforts of all involved who helped to secure the grant, it’s truly spectacular news for our community!" Ekstrand stated. "On behalf of myself and the board of trustees, all Farmingdale Village residents, all merchants and the local community, we are thrilled to have won a $4.5 million grant for a Performing Arts Center. Thanks again to Governor [Kathy] Hochul and New York State officials."

Ekstrand thanked Farmingdale Village Trustee Cheryl Parisi, "who never quit pushing;" grant writer Eric Alexander and Elissa Kyle of Vision Long Island; Village Administrator Brian Harty; Deputy Clerk Dan Ruckdeschel; Deputy Mayor Bill Barrett; Trustee Craig Rosasco; Trustee Walter Priestley; and "the entire support team at Village Hall."

"They all persisted, year after year, and never gave up until they got it!" Ekstrand said. "On behalf of the Farmingdale Village Board or Trustees, myself, and constituents, we are thrilled to 'Move Farmingdale Forward' with this New York State grant."

The Farmingdale Village Business Improvement District and the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce teamed up to launch a Round-Up Campaign benefitting Long Island cancer charities, Ekstrand said.

"Farmingdale merchants are teaming up to create change through pocket change!" Ekstrand said. "Each month participating merchants will submit votes to select the charity for round up donations for the upcoming month. For May, the participating merchants voted for the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition for the inaugural cancer charity to benefit from the program."

Ekstrand congratulated Vespa and Vico on winning OpenTable Diners' Choice 2025 Awards. Vespa Italian Kitchen has won an OpenTable Diner's Choice Award for the fourth consecutive year, and Vico Costiera Amalfitana won an OpenTable Diner's Choice Award for the second year in a row.
