Products from the Garden at Farmingdale State

College Horticulture Department celebrates the Green movement Saturday.

The Ornamental Horticulture Teaching Gardens will be open all day Saturday for its third annual Educational Field Day and Open House.

Themed Products from the Garden, the benefit for the Department of Ornamental Horticulture’s Sustainable Garden will teach visitors how to grow grapes, make their own compost tea brewer, select and save local seeds, and create landscapes full of food and beauty.

In addition to a plant raffle, there will be lectures, workshops, garden tours and local food. Music will be provided by Spencer and the Elders at lunch from 12:30-1:30 pm.

Scheduled speakers will be Travis Beck of the New York Botanical Garden, Alice Wise of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County and Ken Greene of the Hudson Valley Seed Library in Accord, NY.

Planned to coincide with the college’s Open House for prospective students, the event will be held from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm.
