It was just too hot to be out playing sports Monday so the Town of Oyster Bay cancelled its outdoor program.
The decision was made as a safety precaution. A heat advisory was in effect for our area and the high temperatures can actually be dangerous.
Few people were at the park mid-afternoon. A group of kids enjoyed a sprinkler device at one of the play areas.
The heat wave is expected to continue all week.
Fortunately, the town's pools are open and will remain on summer hours this week. The pools are open until 9 p.m. nightly.
Farmingdale wasn't the only community impacted. All Town of Oyster Bay outdoor athletic activities were cancelled until 7:30 p.m. Monday. The Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park and Skate Park were also closed.
It is not clear if the closures will continue tomorrow, when the temperatures are expected to be in the 90s again.
