Woman Held Long Island Woman Against Her Will In Apartment: Police

The woman punched and kicked the resident after an argument and locked her in a room to prevent her from calling for help, police say.

FARMINGDALE, NY — A woman was charged with burglary on Tuesday in Farmingdale after she held another woman against her will in an apartment, Nassau police said.

A woman called 911 to report her friend was being held against her will at an Eastern Parkway residence around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Officers were met with Shawnequa Polite, 42, who is without her own home, and a 28-year-old woman who had visible injuries on her, police said.

The investigation revealed that Polite was temporarily staying at the woman's apartment, and they got into an argument regarding finances, police said. The argument escalated, and Polite punched the woman, police said. While the woman was attempting to get away, Polite kicked her in the face and locked her in her room, police said. This prevented the woman from getting help, which placed her in fear for her life, police said.

The woman was eventually able to call a friend who then called 911 for assistance, police said.

Polite was arrested without incident, and the woman was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

Polite was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree attempted robbery, third-degree assault, and unlawful imprisonment, police said.

She was arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
