On October 18, GFWC NYS held its Island
Metro Fall District Meeting at Post & Union Restaurant in Floral Park
hosted by the Women’s Club of Farmingdale. Current WCF President, Lynda Leone,
was appointed Island Metro District Director and Debbie Podolski and current
WCF 2nd VP, was appointed GFWC NYS Creative Writing Chair for the
2026-2028 administration. GFWC NYS
President, Jane Lemak, together with clubwomen from local Long Island clubs, was
in attendance.

On Saturday, October 25, members of the
WCF met at Epic House in Farmingdale to drop off baked goods and small toys for
their residents. Welfare Chair, Rosemary
Emigholz, organizes several visits throughout the year, especially coinciding
with various holidays. The club was warmly received by about 10 or 12 residents. Epic House provides services and support to meet
individuals’ needs so that as their level of care can change, if needed, and they
can age in place. This allows them to
remain in homes that are comfortable and familiar to them, surrounded by staff
and peers who know them well. Regardless of their level of need, each person
participates in their community to the fullest extent possible. For many, this
may include attending day programs, others may volunteer or work, some attend
school, others are retired, and all are encouraged to explore hobbies and
interests to attain fulfillment.
