Here are the top three stories in Five Towns today:
- Today is the special election for the New York State Assembly seat left by Republican Melissa Miller in District 20. Republican Eric Ari Brown, deputy mayor of the Village of Cedarhurst, faces off against Democrat David Lobl, a former special adviser to former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo. Both candidates live in Cedarhurst. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Long Beach police said they have multiple reports of credit card skimming devices over the past several months in the area. To detect a skimming device, tug on the area where you swipe your card and if it is loose, be suspicious. (News 12)
- A 48-year-old woman suffered serious arm injuries Tuesday while working at My Dad's Cookies in Oceanside. Her right arm become "impaled and lodged" in industrial machinery and she was treated at the hospital. (Subscription: Newsday)

- A Rikers Island jail guard from Nassau County is charged in a bribery conspiracy case. Krystle Burrell is accused of accepting almost $10,000 worth of bribes to smuggle two cellphones to prisoners associated with gang activity. (News 12)
- Long Beach resident Sandy Solo was honored by the City of Long Beach for his 100th birthday earlier this month. (LI Herald)
