EAST ROCKAWAY, NY — Alex Michael-Asher Thayer is not your average nine-year-old boy.

Thayer, who grew up in Hewlett and now calls East Rockaway home, is getting bitten by the acting bug.

He appears in a music video for the band Working Class Hussys strutting guitar and singing. (His voice is dubbed with the band and he doesn't play the instrument.)

"We got to eat ice cream, but it was like two degrees," Thayer told Patch. "It was still really fun. I'm getting paid to play."

He got to meet the singers, but the opportunity came about thanks to his sister, who used to do modeling work.

That led photographers to include him for jobs and "I got an agent."

Thayer has been seen in several commercials, including for Toys R Us and local clothing store Denny's.

His biggest role to date was in the Netflix movie "Otherhood" starring Felicia Huffman. He portrayed Jake Lacy as a boy.

"It makes me feel really good," Thayer said.

Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette also starred in the 2019 film.

Although Thayer enjoys acting, he'd like to become an author when he grows up. As a fourth-grader at the Brandeis School in Lawrence, karate and soccer are among his top activities for fun.

Moments before Patch spoke to Thayer, he was in contact with producers at "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" about a role in the final season of the popular Amazon Prime comedy.

He created an at-home audition for the part and did the interview.

"So I can't wait to see if I get it," he admitted.
