Here are the top three stories in Five Towns today:
- A Westbury man is accused of shooting a 19-year-old woman in the chest in New Cassel on Saturday night. Police say 21-year-old Brian Mercado-Ventura was involved in a domestic disturbance with the victim. (News 12)
- Long Island public schools will get more than $457 million in extra state financial aid in 2022-23, the most ever. Nassau's state assistance would increase 6.52 percent, or $222.25 million. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Island Park schools could be affected by a tentative agreement between the county and the Long Island Power Authority, to lower taxes on the E.F. Barrett Power Station in Island Park.
The district uses LIPA’s payments in lieu of taxes, or PILOTs, as revenue for its budget. (LI Herald)
