Roosevelt Excels at this Year's JROTC Raider Challenge/Commander’s Cup
Rough Riders Bring Home Seven Trophies, Including Four First-Place Finishes
The Roosevelt High School Army JROTC cadets demonstrated outstanding strength, teamwork and dedication at the Army JROTC Raiders Challenge/Commander's Cup, hosted by Hempstead High School. The Rough Riders were victorious in the competition and took home seven trophies, including four first-place finishes.
“This incredible achievement reflects our cadets' tireless work ethic, discipline, and commitment to excellence,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Their performance throughout the competition is a testament to the values we strive to instill every day: perseverance, teamwork, and resilience.”
Raider Competitions are military simulations and athletic events held throughout the year at JROTC programs worldwide. Known for physically demanding and high-intensity challenges, the event tests the physical and mental toughness of cadets through a series of outdoor competitions.

Events include tire drags, push-up challenges, team distance runs, rope bridge construction and crossing, first aid scenarios, obstacle courses and other challenges designed to build leadership, endurance and teamwork. The Roughriders’ success at the Raiders Challenge marks a significant milestone in the success and progress of Roosevelt’s JROTC program.
