Air Quality Advisory Issued For Long Island Thursday
The projected 101 on the Air Quality Index is unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to a state department.

LONG ISLAND, NY — An air quality health advisory was declared for Long Island on Thursday by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The projected 101 on the Air Quality Index is unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to the department. Wednesday's level of 84 is considered moderate.
"While high ozone levels are normally restricted to the warm season, fine particles can be high at any time of year," the department wrote. "These pollutants arise from sources such as cars, trucks and power plants, with fine particle levels also enhanced by forest fires and residential burning. To help reduce pollution levels, refrain from unnecessary driving and use public transportation if available."
