Huntington Town Opens Warming Centers As Freezing Temperatures Chill LI
Two warming centers are open Wednesday through Sunday. Here is more information.
TOWN OF HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth and the Huntington Town Board are set to open warming centers at two locations throughout the township Wednesday through Sunday, Jan. 12, the town announced.
The Warming Center locations include:
- Clark Gillies Dix Hills Ice Rink
- Address: 575 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills
- Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Info: There are no ice rink activities for those using the warming center.
- John J. Flanagan Huntington Senior Center — Flanagan Center Open Monday – Friday only
- Address: 423 Park Ave., Huntington
- Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Once Town Warming Center hours conclude, those in need of additional support can contact the Suffolk County Department of Social Services (DSS) Emergency Services Unit at 631-854-9100. This number is available after 4:30 p.m, Monday through Friday, on weekends and holidays.

For those who are out of fuel to heat their homes or need an emergency burner repair, the Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as "HEAP," can be reached from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by calling 631-853-8820.
Heat assistance is also available through Project Warmth. Those in need can dial 211 or call the United Way at 888-774-7633.

Those in need of housing can contact the DSS Temporary Housing Assistance Unit by contacting 631-854-9547 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
