HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington Hospital on Wednesday announced it is implementing a new comprehensive detection system to screen for weapons and contraband at two hospital entrances.

Evolv Express, a seamless walk-through system from Massachusetts-based Evolv Technology, allows for a touch-less experience while screening for weapons. The screening process, monitored by hospital security, is designed to avoid the slow lines associated with older detection screening processes and technologies. The new technology is set to debut Tuesday.

"We take the safety of staff, patients and visitors seriously and are committed to keeping our community safe," said Scott Strauss, vice president of security and support systems at Northwell Health, in a news release. "We must be prepared for anything. This is the most advanced weapons detection system available, and it is going to deter violence and possibly save lives."

"Huntington Hospital is known for its world-class health care and it's our mission to keep everyone safe with best-in-class security measures," said Nick Fitterman, MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital. "By investing in this new weapons detection system, we are reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding our patients, employees, and visitors.
