Occupants of a Huntington Station home escaped a blaze Sunday afternoon so intense that it melted the vinyl on the house next door.
The two-story high-ranch home on Dianne Crest was extensively damaged by the blaze.
Huntington Manor firefighters rescued two pet cats, which were given oxygen and taken to a pet hospital.

The house was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived. The department said about 50 firefighters controlled the fire within a half hour.
The scene was under the command of Huntington Manor Fire Chief Fred Steenson, Jr., with operations handled by Assistant Chiefs Frank McQuade and Jon Hoffmann.T he Huntington Fire Department assisted at the scene.
