NORTHPORT, NY — Marcus and Sasha, 8-month-old bonded siblings, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

A mother cat named Maya and her daughter, Cleo, both had kittens days apart — a total of 12 kittens — in rescue, said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

Maya kept nursing until the kittens were about 3 weeks old and decided she wanted to stop, according to Wild. Her daughter, Cleo, took over and literally nursed all of them all by herself, Wild said.

"Cleo was an amazing mom, even though she was still just a kitten herself," Wild said. "She was adopted and is in the best home ever and is living her best life. Every single one of Maya (who is also in a loving home) and Cleo's kittens have been adopted."

All except for Sasha and Marcus.

"It's funny because we were focusing on the other kittens because they were all very outgoing and it seemed they kept getting passed over and over," Wild said. "We didn't even realize that Sasha and Marcus have been here just as long, without one application or any interest. I think it's because they have these wonderful personalities, and they just don't seem like they are sad. They're just kind of go with the flow kittens. I truly believe that they wanted their siblings to find homes first. Is that even possible? They are loving and sweet, calm, and relaxed."

They are the two kittens of the 12 that looked out for everyone, according to Wild. And now that the rest of the litter found homes, it is time for Marcus and Sasha to find theirs'.

"Marcus is the most outgoing and funny and silly kitten ever," Wild said. "Sasha is more of the observer. She loves cuddles. In fact, the other evening she took a 10-minute nap on one of our volunteers. They do not get to do that very often, but she climbed into her lap, and our volunteer suddenly had cat paralysis, as we lovingly call it. To see her at peace, snuggled up and relaxed was a gift. All these two want is a home of their own. They can rest easy now that all their brothers and sisters, and even their mom; all are safe and sound."

Marcus and Sasha were raised with children, other cats, and even dogs.

"They are the cream of the crop," Wild said. "If you are looking for two amazing kittens, these are your babies, cuddled up at Petco Commack together, please come visit them. Growing up in our habitats is tough. They are missing out on so much and it is time for them to go home."
