PATCHOGUE, NY — Long Island's Christian Guardino became a fan favorite on this season's "American Idol," making it to the last seven singers standing. He left the show last week after failing to get enough votes to crack the final five, but the 21-year-old Patchogue native has already released a brand new single.

On Friday, Guardino released "Higher," recorded in the same studio where Marvin Gaye recorded "What's Going On" and created with producer DannyBoyStyles.

Guardino told Music Mayhem that he fell in love with the song when he first heard it.

“As soon as I first heard the song ‘Higher’ I knew instantly that that was gonna be the song I chose. I fell in love with the melody, the lyrics, and everything about the song,” he explained.
