Fastrack Hits the Q, N, R Lines April 15-19

The Q, N and R lines will be shut down over night night this week for the MTA’s Fastrak program, which aims to accomplish in a week the repairs and maintenance work that would normally take much longer.

Starting Monday night, April 15, and lasting through Friday morning, April 19, there will be no Q or N service in Manhattan from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Here are the details: 

• N trains run in Queens and Brooklyn only. 
• Q trains run in Brooklyn and are rerouted via the D line in Manhattan.
• R service ends early in Manhattan and Queens each night. (R shuttle service between 95^thStreet and 36^th Street, Brooklyn runs all night.)

Introduced in January 2012, Fastrack allows workers to effciently perform such tasks as inspecting signals and switches, replacing track rails and cross ties, repairing elevators and escalators and fixing third rail defects. Shutting a line down completely for a seven-hour stretch allows "an army of maintenance workers to perform dozens of tasks without the concern of having to 'clear up' to allow trains to pass," according to the MTA.

The next Fastrack overnight closure will be during the week of May 6 through 10 on the Fourth Avenue line in Brooklyn between 36^th Street (D, N R) and Bay Ridge-95^th Street (R).
