New Brooklyn-Inspired Ice Cream Flavor To Help Local Charities

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Giving where you live this Giving Tuesday is as easy as going out for ice cream thanks to a new Brooklyn-inspired flavor.

Prospect Heights shop The Social unveiled an ice cream flavor on Tuesday inspired by the borough for a local #BrooklynGives campaign, which encourages neighbors to give to local charities on Giving Tuesday, the world's largest day of charitable giving.

The new flavor — called "Spread Love… the #BrooklynGives Way" — comes after a contest where Brooklynites could submit ideas for the new flavor. The proceeds from the ice cream will be donated to the #BrooklynGives campaign.

“Brooklyn Community Foundation’s #BrooklynGives campaign introduces caring and generous Brooklynites to dozens of nonprofits doing important work right in their communities," The Social co-owner Jackie Cuscuna said. "...We are all about supporting our neighbors, and we’re thrilled that the new flavor, Spread Love… the #BrooklynGives Way, makes doing so just a little sweeter."

The new flavor features a vanilla malted ice cream base with chocolate cheesecake and rainbow cookies in honor of the diversity of the borough, organizers said.

The #BrooklynGives campaign, organized by The Brooklyn Community Foundation, focuses on raising money for Brooklyn-based racial justice organizations. The campaign started earlier this month and will last through December.

At The Social, the #BrooklynGives flavor is the first in a new initiative known as Churn for Change, which will raise money for local nonprofits.

The business said that the Brooklynites who submitted ideas that led to the new flavor will win two free pints of the ice cream, a Social t-shirt and a #BrooklynGives gift card to donate to the nonprofits of their choice.
