Tot Town Wants Kids and Parents to Romp and Relax in a 'Warm, Welcoming Place'

The Crown Heights business will start welcoming children and caregivers on Oct. 10 with a $5 "play all day" deal.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Nobella Parham said she remembers what it's like being a new mom. Her daughter Nia was born two years ago, Parham told Patch, and at the time, she wanted to find other parents to socialize with, as well as people with whom she could share tips and advice.

And so, when the opportunity came to start a business, she decided to create "a warm, welcoming place" where parents and caregivers "can gather and let their kids have fun."

The result, Tot Town, is opening on Oct. 10 at 636 Classon Ave. in Crown Heights.

Parham said she has a background in opening and running large facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities, adding that she's hired a team of staffers with experience as caregivers to operate Tot Town.

The front of the space allows guests to "relax," and is a place where younger toddlers can play with toys while their parents chat, play along, or sit back and enjoy complimentary wifi. The "romp" room in back is for slightly older kids (those between 2 and 5), and will feature an arts corner, a play tent, and a dress-up area, among other attractions. There will also be an outdoor AstroTurf-covered play space that Parham said may sprout a garden next spring. The owner added that all the play spaces are open to kids of all ages.

Parham also has a variety of classes scheduled, including Kanga & Roo Yoga (age 0-2); Tiger Tales Yoga (2.5-5, and incorporating storytelling into yoga activities); FunikiJam World Music & Movement (3 and under); Thrive Ballet (age 2.5-4.5); and an art class called "smArties" for those 3-11.

Currently scheduled special events include Baby Bodyguards, a CPR class that will take place on the evening of Oct. 26, and a Halloween Party on Oct. 29 featuring face painting, pumpkin decorating and other activities.

Those visiting Tot Town can pay by the hour ($12), or pay a $165 monthly membership fee, which allows you unlimited time in the space, plus class discounts. What's more, if you pay for one child, the fees are discounted for any siblings they have.

Tot Town will celebrate its grand opening with a $5 "play all day" deal. The space is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
