Mandatory Evacuation Order Lifted For Rye Neighborhoods

UPDATE: The order, originally set to be in effect until 6 a.m., was lifted as of 8 p.m.

RYE, NY — Rye public safety officials have lifted a mandatory evacuation order for residents of Manursing Island, Pine Island Road, and low-lying areas of Greenhaven.

The mandatory evacuation order covered all of South Manursing Island.

Residents affected were offered temporary shelter at the Rye Golf Club. The city shelter at Rye Golf Club closed at 7 p.m.

Officials said the evacuation was necessary because emergency services may not have able to reach the homes during the hours of the evacuation order.

"As of 8 p.m., the mandatory evacuation order has been lifted," offcials said in a statement released Friday evening, citing "a change in the weather pattern."

The Rye Fire Department and Building Department will survey buildings compromised by flood waters. Homeowners who believe gas or electric has been compromised due to the flood water, are asked to call the Rye Fire Department at 914-967-4530.
