Rye Vehicle Thefts Continue Because Of Unlocked Car Doors: Police
The City of Rye Police Department said 71 vehicles were stolen from driveways, and an additional 55 had property within vehicles stolen.

RYE, NY — The City of Rye Police Department has issued a vehicle theft warning Tuesday.
Since March 11, the city had 11 vehicle thefts, four of which were in broad daylight on two separate Sunday afternoons, said police.
In total, 71 vehicles were stolen from resident’s driveways since Jan. 1, 2020 and all of the vehicles were unlocked, authorities reported.

In addition, another 55 vehicles, which were also unlocked, were entered and had property stolen, officials added.
The Rye residents’ vehicles were not only stolen, but also used to commit crimes in other jurisdictions as far as Connecticut and New Jersey, police said.

Police have also had to engage in high speed pursuits after stopping suspects at traffic stops, according to authorities.
Police say be on the lookout for suspects dressed in black from head to toe with their faces covered in masks and wearing work gloves, reported police.
Patrol Units are aware of the rise in vehicle thefts, but they need the public’s community’s assistance by having residents locking their car doors and removing their key or key fob when they are not in the vehicle, the police department said.
