"There is a cure, we just haven't found it yet," a member of the ALS Ride for Life organization and a Smithtown HS West alumnus said.

SMITHTOWN, NY — As they made their way through the traffic circle at Smithtown High School West, school alumnus Paul Weisman and his friend, Jordan Tarazi, stopped to thank the many students and faculty who were applauding them, according to a news release from the district.

Weisman and Tarazi are part of the ALS Ride for Life organization which stopped at Smithtown High School West on Friday, as part of their two week "Journey of Hope." For this annual event, ALS patients ride their wheelchairs from eastern Long Island to Manhattan in orderto raise awareness for ALS.

"This is great. What you’re doing is awesome," Weisman said. "There is a cure, we just haven’t found it yet."
