Bulls Take High School Hockey Championship
Smithtown-Hauppauge sweeps Connetquot-Sayville in best-of-three series.

The Bulls are the best hockey team in Suffolk County as they defeated Connetquot-Sayville 4-2 on Wednesday in Game 2 of the Suffolk County High School Hockey League Championship, giving them the title.
The Bulls, who entered the finals as the second-seeded team, won the first and second game of the best-of-three series to sweep the top-seeded T-Birds.
According to a Newsday report [subscription required], with the game deadlocked at 2-2, Smithtown-Hauppauge’s Joseph Rubino scored with 11:31 remaining in the third period giving them the go-ahead goal that Connetquot-Sayville would not come back from. The Bulls added one more in the third, bringing the score to 4-2.

“The kids all year long spoke about finishing the job and going all the way and they stayed focused. [Connetquot-Sayville] is a very difficult team but we stuck to our game plan and played tremendous,” Bulls coach Vincent Granice told Newsday after the game at The Rinx in Hauppauge.
Smithtown-Hauppauge’s Thomas Dunn received playoff MVP honors.

The Bulls wrapped up the season with a record of 19-1. Before defeating Connetquot-Sayville the Bulls took down West Islip in the quarterfinals and Kings Park-Commack in the semifinals.
