- October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. It's time to support the fighters and celebrate the survivors. The early detection of the disease can save lives. St. Catherine Diagnostic Imaging in Smithtown invites women aged forty years and older to get a free breast cancer screening on Monday, Oct. 17. No insurance is necessary. (Town of Smithtown)
- Teachers Federal Credit Union on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway in Commack was robbed by a man "disguised as a woman." The suspect, wearing a wig, makeup and women's clothing, demanded cash from the teller who complied and then fled the scene. Suffolk police are asking anyone with information that can help with identification and arrest to call 631-852-6553. (News 12 Bronx)
- Hooray to Smithtown High School West Student Jack Melore for being recognized by NY Jets as the Player of the Week. Melore was crucial in "Smithtown West's 20-14 win over No. 4-ranked Half Hollow Hills East on Saturday."
