- The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille, located at 716 Smithtown Bypass in Smithtown, has closed its doors. The closure was announced via email, but no reasons were released. The restaurant has another location at East Meadow, which remains open. (Greater Long Island)
- Cook at the Smithtown Historical Society with Chef Stephen Gallagher. The next event is on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Gallagher owns the Trattoria in St. James. Tickets are $20 for members of the Smithtown Historical Society and $25 for non-members and can be purchased at eventbrite.com. (Newsday/Subscription Required)
- A group of residents gathered at the Harbor's Cordwood Park in St. James on Aug. 27 to protest against the construction of a dock in the area. The rally was organized by resident Lisa Davidson and attracted environmentalists from Stony Brook University. (TBR News Media)
- Stony Brook director for Clean Water Technology, Arjun Venkatesan, is testing wastewater to search for the content of opioids and other substances. The goal is to track infections and information about the spread of COVID-19 in the community. (TBR News Media)
- The Lidl grand opening in Commack was held on Wednesday. Shoppers attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. and received gift cards. That's the 23rd location on Long Island. The following site to be open is in Deer Park sometime this winter. The Commack location opens daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Greater Smithtown)
