Here are the top five stories today in Smithtown:
- Brentwood-based company, Giapreet LLC, has purchased a 2.6-acre property in the Commack Industrial area. The land was sold for $10.25 million. Giapreet is a wholesaler and real estate investment firm, and hopefully, that will bring local jobs to the town. Read details at the Long Island Business News. (Patch)
- The town of Smithtown held an event to collect Hazardous Household Waste last weekend. More than eight tons of toxic items were collected from 320 houses on Oct. 1, which are not allowed in curbside pickups. The efforts come from the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Environment and Waterways Environmental. Free mulch was also distributed to residents who came out to drop off their items. - Smithtown Sweetbriar is hosting the Halloween Spooktacular on Oct. 14! For those who love and want to support the community nature center, don't miss out on the fun events hosted throughout the year that benefits the animals who call Sweetbriar their home. (Sweetbriar Center)
- The rain did not stop Smithtown High School West students who came out on Oct. 3 to "Play For A Cure" in honor of the memory of St. James Elementary School teacher Sarah, who passed away due to breast cancer. Teacher Sarah's legacy lives in her students, who are dedicated to hosting fundraisers to help Childhood Cancer research. (Smithtown Matters)
- According to poll results released by Siena College, Democrat Kathy Hochul is ahead of Republican Lee Zeldin by 54-37. The College's data show Hochul had a growth of three points since the last poll in August. (Long Island News 12)

- Volunteers are needed for the Meals on Wheels program that delivers hot food to the elderly citizens of the Town of Smithtown. The Citizen Department is experiencing a reduction of available drivers who serve 105 seniors in our community from Monday through Friday. The initiative was created to help those who can't step out of their homes easily to socialize due to medical conditions or other issues.
