Power Outages Continue to Drop Locally

There are 44,181 homes without power in the Town of Smithtown as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

The amount of power ouages caused by Hurricane Sandy started to decrease in the Town of Smithtown on Wednesday and are continuing to do so Thursday morning.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, there are 44,181 homes without power. There were 50,025 homes without power as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Specifically in Smithtown, St. James, Nesconset, Head of the Harbor, Village of the Branch and Nissequogue, there are currently 28,373 power outages. There were 33,214 outages in this area for our 4 p.m. update Wednesday. The biggest drop in outages from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morining was in Nesconset, where there are currently 276 outages, down from 3,197.

The outages in Suffolk County have also dropped to 307,752 as of 6 a.m.
