The 12-year-old Palomino pony is suffering from a severe medical condition that requires one of its eyes to be removed, and is currently taking medication, but without it, doctors say the animal would be in severe pain.
"We have a veterinarian who will perform the surgery, but it will cost five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) to cover the cost of the surgery and subsequent medication," said chief of the Suffolk SPCA Roy Gross in a statement.Â

The Palomino pony was one of the two-dozen horses that were rescued from a Calverton farm this spring after suffering from neglect. Gross said he had "never seen a volume of horses at one time" like he did at the Calverton farm.
Three of the 24 horses recovered were taken to Hillcrest Stables for rehabilitation at the time.
