Here are the top stories today in Smithtown:
- Start your New Year with an adopted pet from a Smithtown area shelter! New dogs and cats were added this week. A great place to start your search is at Ollies Angels Animal Rescue, where Sugarplum the dog is waiting patiently. If you're a cat person, meet Luna, a domestic short hair up for adoption. (Smithtown Patch)
- Check out this week’s newest job openings! New Year, new job! Why not? Listings include everything from customer service to managing online auctions. (Smithtown Patch)
- The Smithtown Senior Citizens Department's Medical Alert Program has expanded! In addition to offering in-home medical alert monitoring services, residents, age 60 and older, now have the option to choose a GPS enabled system that travels wherever they go. Residents who are interested in obtaining a Connect America Medical Alert system can inquire at 631-360-7616. The service is available for a low monthly monitoring fee of $18 for the in-home system and $30 for the GPS enabled system. There are no installation fees, long term contracts or cancellation penalties. (smithtownmatters.com)
- A house fire in Brentwood on Nancy Street has killed one man, a dog and left his stepson fighting for his life. Authorities have identified the 79-year-old victim as Jesus Sandoval, affectionately known as "Jessie." His son said he visits his father at the home every Sunday after church and that he's stunned by what happened. (KTVU.com)
