Here are the top stories in Smithtown today:
- A bear-y nice holiday for children at two local hospitals. 45 Teddy Bears arrived at the Smithtown Senior Citizens Department two weeks ago. The Teddy bears were discovered by staffers when they arrived at the Middle Country Road headquarters. On Wednesday, the program director and department staffers delivered the bears to Smithtown’s St. Catherine of Siena Hospital and St. Charles’ hospitals. (Newsday)
- Icy road caused dozens of accidents on Long Island Expressway. The string of crashes closed the highway in both directions, eastbound at exit 57 and westbound at exit 56, as highway workers salted and sanded the roadway. (WABC-TV)
- A knife attack in Massapequa yesterday, was over an argument over closing a bedroom window. The argument escalated, and police say Santiago Real, 49 slashed a 55-year-old man with a small knife, hitting him in the nose, upper arm and chest. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wounds. Real was arrested without incident. (Patch)
- In Deer Park on Thursday, an 85-year-old mother was stabbed to death by her son's ex-girlfriend, who then stabbed her boyfriend, Suffolk police said. The attack took place at Mare Mille's home on Smith Street, she was attacked by Shaquela Titley, 30, of Deer Park. Titley was arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned on second-degree murder charges. (Newsday)
