- Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Betty Boop. Ms. Boop is a 10-year-old female pit bull terrier. "She is a very calm and low-key couch potato who absolutely loves people and attaches to them very easily," the shelter wrote in an email. "She is a BIG fan of belly rubs and getting treats! Betty would love nothing more than to spend her golden years snuggled up with her favorite person, lulling them to sleep with her adorable snore." (Smithtown Patch)
- The Mental Health Subcommittee of the Community Mental Hygiene Advisory Board is holding a Zoom meeting Feb. 2. - "You think that could never happen," said Smithtown High School West teacher Cherie Diamond, who prepares students in her First Aid Health class to overcome the stress of situations that call for life-saving action. Good thing for Kim Desthers, who was choking and was saved by her daughter Sarah, a Smithtown High School West student, who used the Heimlich maneuver to save her mother’s life. Sarah had learned the life-saving technique just a few weeks prior, practicing it on a mannequin in her First Aid CPR and AED health elective class. Good for you Sarah! (Greater Long Island)
- Centereach man last seen Jan. 18 reported missing: Suffolk Police. A Centereach man who was last seen nearly 10 days ago has been reported missing. Justin Lee, a 34-year-old man who suffers from schizophrenia and is bipolar, was last seen near his home, police said. Lee is Black, stands at 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and has a scar on his nose, and a gold front tooth. On his right arm, he has tattoos, including "Helen" and "RIP Helen 1957-2002" with praying hands. He also has a tattoo of "MOB" on his chest. (Smithtown Patch)
