Here are the top stories in Smithtown today:
- Amparo Hoyos Garcia, 69, from Patchogue, was arrested and charged with grand larceny for allegedly pocketing items from a Smithtown home between Dec. 22 and Jan. 19. Garcia is accused of stealing $15,000 worth of jewelry from a home where she worked as a nanny. The Fourth Precinct said that anyone who believes they may also have been victimized by Hoyos Garcia should contact them at 631-854-8452. (Smithtown Patch)
- Congratulations to Laura Adams, a Nesconset mother of two who is currently majoring in Suffolk County Community College's Radio and Television Production program. She is among only nine students state-wide nominated for the prestigious Vanguard Student Recognition Award! (smithtownmatters.com)
- The Connetquot Teachers Association, which operates within the Connetquot School District, says Long Island school district is not enforcing COVID-19 mask mandate among students. "Some don't wear them all, some wear them below the chin, some wear them below the nose," Teachers Association President Tony Felicio Jr. said of the students. "But it's increasing." Connetquot High School psychologist Dr. Brad Lindell was diagnosed with COVID-19 this week, and he believes he contracted it from being in the school. (WABC-TV)
