- David Tunney of Eagle Realty Holdings Inc. will open a new restaurant in Stony Brook Village Center this spring, we just don't know what it will be. According to TBR News Media, Tunney owns Old Fields restaurants in Port Jefferson and Greenlawn and Old Fields Barbecue in Huntington. He is also one of the founders of the Besito Restaurant Group along with his brother John and part-owner of Besito Mexican restaurants in Huntington and Roslyn. According to Eagle Realty, Tunney has not announced the name of the business or what will be offered. Only time will tell. (tbrnewsmedia.com)
- Derek Peterson, founder of Soter Technologies in Ronkonkoma, was inspired by his own experience as "being the smallest kid" as he was always picked on in school. His company developed the first anti-bullying detection system. The company also created the first vaping detector for schools and a scanning device to verify vaccination status. His company awards scholarships named for his father to minority engineering students at Stony Brook University. “You can’t let color, race, ethnicity ever hold you back,” Peterson said. “If you put your nose to the grind and you build a good foundation around you and people will stand up and support you.” (News 12 Brooklyn)
- The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation will finance the restoration of two weathervanes that once adorned the Vanderbilt Mansion and the Learning Center through a $86,489 grant. Deterioration and public safety concerns led the museum to remove both weathervanes 30 years ago. (tbrnewsmedia.com)
