  1. The residents of Sunrise Senior Living in Village of the Branch are very happy with the donations from Smithtown High School East's Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club. The donation was $500 worth of toiletries and makeup for the senior center’s residents. “This year, they also asked for puzzles and board games,” said their adviser Connie Smith, who advises the club with Jaclyn Grebosz. “The FCCLA was more than happy to accommodate that request during a shopping trip at a nearby Dollar Store earlier in the afternoon.”(Greater Long Island)
  2. The Smithtown Central School District announced that Peter Russo has come home to serve as an assistant principal at Great Hollow Middle School. Russo, a Smithtown resident, officially began his new role on Monday. He joined the Smithtown Central School District after working since 2016 as the coordinator of special education for Long Beach High School and Middle School in Nassau County. (smithtownmatters.com)
  3. The Town of Smithtown distributed more than 2,000 at-home coronavirus test kits to the most vulnerable population within the township, according to a news release. The at-home COVID-19 antigen test kit, made in the United States, includes two tests per box. The boxes were delivered to senior living communities throughout the township, at the Senior Center, and at Public Safety. Residents who may be homebound or are unable to obtain at-home test kits may email the Supervisors office at SPIO@SmithtownNY.gov with requests. (Smithtown Patch)
  4. The Association for a Better Long Island is seeking an immediate freeze on school tax increases for the coming year. The ABLI wants Albany to amend current funding formulas so that school districts are rewarded for financial discipline. (Subscription: Long Island Business News)
