- A total of three third-prize $50,000 winning Powerball tickets were sold for the New Year's Day drawing, according to the New York Lottery. The winning tickets each had four matching numbers and the Powerball. The winning numbers for the Powerball drawing on Jan. 1 were: 27-29-45-55-58 and the Powerball was 2. (Patch)
- Mickey’s Ice Cream Kitchen opened at 370 Lake Ave. in St. James last month. Their flavors range from seasonal flavors, like pumpkin spice in the fall to coconut caramel chip that tastes like an Almond Joy and cannoli chip. Each of the shop’s flavors are ready to go as pints, and can be served in cones, shakes, and sundaes with all the fixings. (Greater Long Island)
- Smithtown leaders and many Kings Park businesspeople say a downtown sewer plan will spark growth as it will make way for new or expanded commercial uses like restaurants, cafes and bars and potentially dozens of apartments, clearing Suffolk County to deploy $20 million in New York State grant money to lay 10,000 feet of pipe which is expected to come online by spring 2025. - Kisjonne Campbell-Anderson, 24, a Brooklyn man was arrested for fataly stabbing Michaelle Jaccis outside her West Babylon home about 1:40 p.m. Saturday. An argument turned physical and Campbell-Anderson allegedly stabbed Jaccis; Medics took her to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. (Yahoo! News)
