The group plans to carry out the principles of The Smithtown Promise and give back to the school community as difference makers.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown Elementary School third and fourth graders, under the guidance of fourth grade teacher and instructional specialist, Christine Pitrelli, have started a Pay It Forward Club, the school district announced.

The group plans to carry out the principles of The Smithtown Promise and give back to the school community as difference makers.

"Helping students in our building learn about the different principles of The Smithtown Promise helps promote a positive climate," Smithtown Elementary School Principal Dr. Mary-Ellen Kakalos said in a news release. "We also have had student announcers relate the principles to their own lives and then share these examples over the morning announcements."
