  2. Halloween is almost here and for those looking for a kid's outing in the community, the Smithtown Sweetbriar Center is hosting the Tails, Trails and Treats on Sunday, Oct. 23!   3. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Free breast screenings will be offered today from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the St. Catherine Diagnostic Imaging.   5. Nearby News: The teenager struck in a hit-and-run in Coram early this month has died from his injuries. He was hit while walking with his sister on Granny Road. Both siblings were taken to Stony Brook University to be treated. Police continue investigating the case and looking for the driver responsible for the crash. (TBR News Media)

  • American Legion Post 833 in Smithtown features a comedy show and fundraiser. Save the date for Oct. 22. The presentation starts at 7:30 p.m. with comedians from the "Laugh Out Loud company."
