Smithtown Police Blotter: Person Scammed Out Of Thousands
ALSO: A grill was stolen off of a car at a dealership, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from June 2 through June 8.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- June 3: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) and auto-stripping (second-degree) were reported on Smithtown Bypass in Smithtown at 11:43 p.m. Someone stole a grill off of a 2025 GMC Sierra at King O'Rourke Buick GMC, police said.
- June 3: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Main Street in Smithtown at noon. A person received a phone call from someone pretending to be from Chase Bank, police said. The scammer told the resident that there was fraud on their account, police said. The scammer told the resident to go to their local branch and transfer money to a neutral account while the fraud was eliminated, police said. The person sent $15K to the account, police said. The scammer told the person to send money orders worth $3,900, police said.
- June 2: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Smithtown Bypass in Lake Grove at 3:59 p.m. Someone was scammed into wiring money, police said.
