John Curtis of Smithtown Central High School was drafted twelfth overall by the Cleveland Indians in the 1966 Major League Baseball draft.

On this day in 1966, the Cleveland Indians selected left-handed pitcher from Smithtown Central High School John Curtis with the twelfth pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft, according to an archived Baltimore Sun report.
According to ESPN.com, Curtis’ career spanned 15 years with five different teams – Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres and the California Angels. His career spanned 438 games with 14 shutouts and a 3.96 career ERA.
Reggie Jackson was also drafted in the 1966 draft, selected with the second overall pick by the Oakland Athletics.Â
