Man Who Struck Bicyclist Arrested After Leaving Scene: Police

The incident took place in January, police say.

NORTHAMPTON, NY — A Northampton man was arrested this week after he struck a bicyclist and fled the scene in January, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, on Wednesday, January 31 at about 6:59 a.m., patrol officers responded to the vicinity of Wildwood Lake, where the bicyclist was struck. The bicyclist was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with broken bones and multiple lacerations, police said.

Southampton Town police detectives and New York State troopers responded to the scene to investigate.

Over the course of several months, information was developed involving the potential driver and the vehicle involved, police said.

On Monday, October 7, the owner of the vehicle was located by Southampton town community response units and was transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, police said.

Daniel Cirello, 36, the owner of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious personal injury, a felony, police said.

He was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
