Woman Attacked, Punched On UWS In Attempted Robbery: NYPD
The attacker asked for a cigarette light before throwing multiple punches at a woman walking near Broadway and West 79th Street, NYPD said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A woman was attacked while walking Saturday night on the Upper West Side, police said.
A 42-year-old woman was walking near Broadway and West 79th Street about 11:30 p.m., when a man approached her and asked if she had a light for his cigarette, police said.
Once the woman stopped, the man immediately began punching her in the face and arm, police said.

He also tried to rip the woman's bag away from her, but wasn't able to do so, police said.
The attacker then ran away east on 79th Street, police said.

The woman did not need medical attention, NYPD added.
