Attacker Tries To Rob Woman In Wash Heights 'A' Train Station: NYPD

The attacker grabbed a woman's arm within the 181 Street station, before trying to rip her cellphone away, police said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man attacked a woman and tried to rob her in a Washington Heights train station, police said on Wednesday.

A 27-year-old woman was going through the turnstile at the 181st Street "A" train station at Fort Washington Ave. about 2:20 p.m. on May 26, when a man grabbed her right arm, police said.

The man then tried to rip the woman's cellphone from her hand, which led to a brief struggle, police said.

The woman ended up falling to the ground, but she never let go of her phone, causing the man to eventually run out of the station, police said.

She suffered minor injuries to her right arm and knees, but refused medical attention, police said.

NYPD described the attacker as roughly 5 feet, 7-inches tall, with a medium build and a bald head.
