Fort Washington Avenue Armory Track In Upper Manhattan Gets A New Name

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The world-famous track within the Fort Washington Avenue Armory in Washington Heights officially has a new name.

The indoor track complex located at 216 Fort Washington Ave., near West 169th Street, is now called the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, according to a recent announcement.

The name change comes on the heels of a new partnership between Nike and the Armory Foundation, which will aim to expand access to the sport of running for New York City athletes of all ages.

“The synergy between our organization and Nike cannot be overstated,” said Jonathan Schindel, co-president of the Armory Foundation, in a news release. "Now thanks to Nike, we will be able to ensure that children in our neighboring communities of Washington Heights, Inwood, and Harlem will continue to have such opportunities, while enabling us to expand our outreach."

The partnership announcement also included a new set of programming that will be coming to the uptown venue in 2023.

That programming includes an HBCU Showcase on Jan. 15 that will give local high school students a chance to explore and learn about life at 20 prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the annual Millrose Game on Feb. 15, which is considered the premier indoor track event in the world, and for the first-time every — the Nike Indoor Nationals will take place at The Armory from March 10th to 12th.

“Our partnership with The Armory Foundation underscores Nike's deep commitment to ensuring that communities have access to running and opportunities to play and stay active,” said Roderick Blaylock, vice president of Nike Inc., in a news release.
