Inwood Memorial To Honor Delivery Workers Killed On Job
Delivery workers and rideshare drivers will descend on Inwood Hill Park on Tuesday to hold a memorial for those who died while working.
INWOOD, NY — Delivery workers and rideshare drivers will gather in Inwood on Tuesday to honor workers within the industries who have been killed on the job since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The memorial comes in the wake of the death of Zhiwen Yan, a delivery worker and father of three who was shot to death on the job in Forest Hills on April 30.
The memorial will take place within Inwood Hill Park at the Tree of Peace. It will begin at 1 p.m.

"While sharing their stories of coworkers lost to rising violence, accidents on the road, or exposure to COVID while working for companies like Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash, drivers and delivery workers will raise awareness of the dangers of their industry and call for increased safety protections from the app companies," reads a news release for the memorial.
Outside of community members and families of workers killed on the job, the following groups will be in attendance:

There will be 12 drawn portraits of app workers killed on the job, laid with white flowers alongside a large red banner reading, "Safety For App Workers."
Family members will also hold signs and photos of their lost ones.
