Man Dies In Flooded Basement In Washington Heights, Police Say

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man died in a flooded Washington Heights basement Thursday evening during intense flash flooding, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the 43-year-old man was in the boiler room in the basement of 701 West 175th St., right near Broadway, when the flooding started in the afternoon.

Police and medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said. Police have not released the identity of the victim yet.

Around the same time, a man died in a flooded basement in Flatbush after he went back in to save a pet dog, according to several reports.
