INWOOD, NY — A decades-old convenience store directly next to the 207th Street A train station in Inwood is being replaced by a Space Exotic Smoke Shop.

The new colorful smoke shop storefront is replacing the Last Stop Convenience store at 4973 Broadway.

Besides its proximity to the busy uptown subway station, it is an important location for a few reasons. It is near the edge of Isham Park, steps away from Church of the Good Shepard, and directly next to the popular Grandpa's Brick Oven Pizza.

A post on Facebook about the new store replacing Last Stop Convenience prompted some Upper Manhattanites to share their memories of the long-time neighborhood store.

"One of my earliest memories is the phone booths in the back," one person wrote. "Buying comic books."

While it is unclear exactly how long Last Stop Convenience operated at the storefront, one commenter said it had been there for at least 50 years, while another said they would buy comic books from the store in the 1950s.

Work is still happening on the new Space Exotic Smoke Shop, and it is not clear exactly when it will open.
